Child abuse cases are a tough subject, especially when they hit close to home. In the Fall of 1994 the unthinkable happened: a young child was murdered in the small town of Wilkesboro, North Carolina by her Uncle Ronald Pierce and his girlfriend  Melanie Anderson. What appears to be a straightforward case of abuse and murder is actually much more complicated. When Ronald Pierce was tried for his crime in 1997, he was given life in prison; however, Melanie Anderson was sentenced to death. Our mission is to investigate why Melanie Anderson was given a more severe punishment than Ronald Pierce when men are typically punished more perversely than women in cases of child abuse. We hope you will join us in this investigative journey over three episodes of about 20 minutes in length.
